One may not see a `Network' button in the `Multiplayer Game' menu. This is because Red Alert 1 only loads the `thipx32.dll' library on Windows versions prior to Windows NT. To fix this, go to the properties of the `RA95.EXE' executable (or its shortcut, if any), and select `Windows 95' as the `Compatibility mode' on the `Compatibility' tab.

It may occur that pressing the `Network' button in the main menu does not work. The fix for this is to either press `OK' once in the game's `LAN Settings' (under `Options', then `Network'), or delete the line that starts with `NetCard=' from the `[Network]' section of the `ra2.ini' file.

Needs DirectPlay, which has been removed from Windows since Windows Vista.
On Windows 9x and Windows NT4, the DirectPlay IPX socket library (dpwsockx.dll) loads the system `wsock32.dll' library instead of the ipxemu `wsock32.dll' library. To fix this, one can use the provided tool to patch the `dpwsockx.dll' library. See `tools\win_9x-nt4_dpwsockx_patch\README.txt' for more information.

When trying to join an IPX network game, the game probably does not get past the `Waiting for response' message. In a sense, it is related to ipxemu; but ultimately it's a bug in Warcraft II BNE. To fix this, one can use the provided tool to apply a bugfix to the `Warcraft II BNE.exe' executable. See `tools\warcraft_2_bne_bugfix\README.txt' for more information.
